What We Believe:
Faith centers on the inner walk. A fruitful inner walk leads to an outward manifestation of righteousness, peace, and joy from living by the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5). A good life exists when it is a lived experience of “Spirit and Truth” (John 4:23).
We believe in one sovereign, and holy God expressed in three persons—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
(Isaiah 45:5, 53; Matthew 3:16-17; John 1:18, 3:16, 16:13-14; 1 Corinthians 2:12; Ephesians 4:6)
We believe Jesus Christ is fully human and fully God. He was crucified and resurrected from the dead as an atonement for sin. (John 3:16, 10:30; Acts 4:12; Romans1:3-4, 6:23; Ephesians 5:2; Colossians 2:9; 1 Timothy 2:5; 1 Peter 3:18)
We believe there is “that of God in everyone” (Romans 1:19; John 1:9). Each of us possesses the entire Holy Spirit from the time we repent and believe; the Spirit indwells and provides that person with power for living, understanding spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what pleases God.
(Romans 8:9-11; Ephesians 1:13; Ephesians 1:14; John 14:16; John 14:17; John 15:26; John 16:7-13; 1 Corinthians 3:16)
We believe the Bible as God’s word, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and is the ultimate and final authority for the church on all faith and life matters. (See footnotes)
(John 14:26, 20:31, Acts 15:28; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:18-21; Romans 15:4; Hebrews 4:12)
We believe God created that us, but that man and woman willfully sinned and became separated from God, only to be reconciled through salvation and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
(Genesis 1:27; John 15:4; Acts 4:12; Romans 3:23-24, 8:1-2)
We believe salvation, or the forgiveness of sins, is a gift from God to man, received by faith, and comes only by God’s grace through the blood of Christ (his death on the cross).
(Romans 6:23; Ephesians 1:7, 2:8–9; Titus 3:4–5)
We believe the church is the gathering of those who have been called into fellowship with God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, and the Church’s purpose is to be the visible expression of Jesus Christ in the world.
(Matthew 16:18; Acts 4:19; Ephesians 4:15-16; Colossians 3:14-17; 1 Peter 2:9)
We believe in the priesthood of all believers, each of whom may approach God directly without the aid of ordained priesthood.
(1 Cor. 12:7; 2 Cor. 5:17-20; Eph. 1:22; 1 Peter 2:9; Heb. 4:14-16; 1 Tim. 2:5-6; Rev. 1:6)
We believe inner communion and the baptism with the Holy Spirit are spiritual realities beyond outward symbols of bread, wine, and water. To live in communion and being immersed in Holy Spirit is expressed in a sacramental life lived daily in the presence of God.
(Matthew 3:11, 18:20; John 4:23-24, 6:35, 48-58; Acts 1:4-5, 11:15-16, 15:28-29; Romans 14:17; Ephesians 4:5; Colossians 2:16, 20-22; 1 Peter 3:21-22)
We believe the Friends Faith (Quaker Way) guides a Christian to freedom from the “source of original sin”* and willful sin this side of Heaven (in this life). Freedom happens when we faithfully live above our physical or mental weakness (infirmity); specifically above our sinful nature.
